Prices explained

Swiss dentist prices are determined by a unique system that ensures transparency and regularity in services. The prices are based on the Dentotar dentist price list , which clearly defines different treatment procedures and their sub-steps and assigns them point values (tax points).

How does the system work?

01

Number of tax points (TPZ):

Each treatment and its sub-steps are assigned the required tax points. This number indicates how time-consuming and complex the procedure is. A simple routine examination receives fewer tax points, while a more complex procedure, such as root canal treatment, receives more points.

02

Value of tax points (TPW):

Value of tax points (TPW): To arrive at a Swiss franc amount, the number of tax points is multiplied by a tax point value. For social insurance, this tax point value is CHF 1.00. For private patients, it can vary: flexible downwards, but upwards up to a maximum of CHF 1.70

Our tax point value is 1.15.

03

Final price calculation

The actual cost of treatment is calculated by multiplying the number of tax points by the tax point value. The formula is:

Number of Tax Points (TPZ) x Tax Point Value (TPW) = Treatment Price

Example:
Recall patient examination (Code 4.0010):

  • Tax Points (TPZ): 48.8

  • Tax Point Value (TPW): CHF 1.00

Base Price:
48.8 x CHF 1.00 = CHF 48.80

If the tax point value is CHF 1.15:
48.8 x 1.15 = CHF 56.12

If the tax point value is CHF 1.70:
48.8 x 1.70 = CHF 82.96

This variation in tax point values explains the price differences across practices.
